New RVs 2027 Catalina 231BHS

The Coachmen Catalina Summit Series 8 is often described as the “sweet spot” in the Catalina lineup. It balances the lightweight, budget-friendly nature of the smaller Series 7 with the expanded space and amenities of the larger Legacy Edition.

Here are the outstanding features that define the Series 8:

1. High-End Appliance Suite

Unlike many “value” trailers that use off-brand components, the Summit Series 8 features a full GE (General Electric) Appliance Package, which includes:

• 10.7 cu. ft. 12V Stainless Refrigerator: Large capacity and highly efficient for off-grid cooling.

• GE Stainless Microwave & 3-Burner Cooktop: Features metal back-lit knobs for a premium feel.

• GE Tankless On-Demand Water Heater: Provides endless hot water, a significant upgrade over traditional 6-gallon tanks.

2. Advanced Climate & Electrical

The series is designed for extended-season comfort with several power-focused features:

• GE 13,500 BTU A/C with Heat Pump: This is a standout feature; the built-in heat pump allows you to warm the cabin using electricity rather than burning through your propane supply.

• Universal Solar Prep: Comes standard with a roof port and internal wiring, making it easy to add panels later (or look for the Peak Performance Solar Package option which includes a 200W panel).

• 4000 Lumen LED Lighting: High-output interior “touch” lighting that is significantly brighter than standard RV puck lights.

3. “Family-First” Floorplans

The “8” in the name refers to the 8-foot wide body (compared to the 7-foot width of the Series 7), which allows for:

• 10-Foot Panoramic Slideout Windows: Available on models like the 261BHS, offering massive views and a more open feel.

• Double-over-Double Bunks: Popular in the 261BH and 261BHS models, providing enough sleeping space for up to 8–10 people.

• Carpetless Design: Features Congoleum wood-plank linoleum throughout, including the slide-outs, making it much easier to clean after a trip with kids or pets.

4. Exterior & Construction Highlights

• JBL Premium Audio: Includes a JBL Aura Cube multi-zone media center with both interior and exterior speakers.

• MORryde StepAbove Stairs: Solid, flip-down entry steps that provide a stable transition into the trailer.

• Pet-Friendly Amenities: Includes a “Leash Link” quick hookup D-ring on the exterior.

• Safe-T-Rail: A large, sturdy grab handle at the entry door for better accessibility.

• The Supersede Marine Board subfloor decking in Coachmen Catalina campers replaces traditional wood subfloors (like plywood or OSB) with an engineered composite material.

  Biggest Feature

  • 100% Wood-Free Composite Material: Manufactured from recycled polypropylene plastic through a patented extrusion process.

  Primary Benefits

  • 100% Waterproof & Rot-Proof: Unlike traditional wood, it cannot absorb water, swell, soft-spot, or rot if a leak occurs.

  • Superior Durability: Resists warping, splintering, and structural degradation over time, giving the RV a longer lifespan.

  • No Outgassing: Free of toxic resins or formaldehyde often found in standard composite wood panels.

  • Eco-Friendly: Made from recycled plastics and is fully recyclable.
